2018 Washington Symposium to Focus on Public Engagement with Science

The National Center for Science Engagement invites you to attend the 2018 Washington Symposium and Poster Session. The Symposium will be held on March 15th and 16th, 2018 at the headquarters of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in downtown Washington, D.C. We solicit proposals and posters on the theme of Public Engagement with Science.

This meeting will convene experts in science communication to help educators in high schools, colleges, universities, non-profit organizations, national parks, public media, libraries, museums, and other informal education institutions to share their work and experiences with increasing public engagement with science.

In addition to specialists in the NCSCE community who will deliver sessions on this topic, we have invited partners to share their expertise with meeting participants:

  • Dan Kahan of the Cultural Cognition Project will share his latest work on how the public understands and comprehends science through a cultural lens.
  • Tim Watkins of the National Park Service will lead a series of sessions on collaborations between National Park Service staff and higher education for the purpose of enriching student learning.
  • Emily Cloyd of AAAS will share more about the organization’s recent efforts in the areas of science communication and public engagement.

We also invite veteran and new members of the NCSCE community to propose sessions that describe related projects.

The deadline for submission of proposals is February 16, 2018. Submitters will be notified by February 23, 2018. To register for the Symposium and propose a session, please use this form. The same form can be used if you are not planning to propose a session. Late registrants will be considered on a space available basis. More updates will be posted as they are available at the 2018 NCSCE Washington Symposium and Poster Session webpage.
