Carrie-Ann Miller is NCSCE’s Associate Director for Programs and Operations. In this role, Carrie-Ann works closely with Eliza Reilly, Executive Director of NCSCE, and David Ferguson, Stony Brook University’s Liaison to NCSCE, to plan and offer programs and special events. She also works with Eliza and Dave on NCSCE fund-raising activities. In addition to this work, Carrie-Ann serves as Director of Experiential Learning Programs in the Department of Technology and Society at Stony Brook University. Carrie-Ann is already a member of the NCSCE community and has attended the SENCER Summer Institute and regional meetings.
Carrie-Ann is a double alumna of Stony Brook University, graduating with her Bachelors degree in 1976 and her Masters from the School of Social Welfare in 1982. Ms. Miller currently serves as the Director of Experiential Learning for STEM Smart programs at Stony Brook, through which she helps to secure internship and hands-on learning opportunities for Stony Brook students. Ms. Miller also is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Health Technology and Management, and the School of Social Welfare. She also serves as an affiliate member of the Center for Community Engagement and Leadership Development (CCE), which is housed in the Stony Brook University School of Health Technology and Management.
Prior to joining the staff of STEM Smart, Ms. Miller was the Director of the Women in Science and Engineering program (WISE) at Stony Brook. She served in this Director’s position for 14 years, and in this capacity grew the program to become among the most praiseworthy on campus. She is the Co-Founder of the TechPREP and STEM Tech programs, which provide project based learning, role models and service-learning opportunities for young women from high needs communities.
Ms. Miller’s professional areas of interest include developing a more diverse and competitive workforce, particularly in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She has expertise in collaborating with students and community partner to develop and implement service-learning programs. These collaborations empower and engage students in learning and provide linkages that strengthen the relationship between Stony Brook University and the community. Students learn that they can make a lasting impact and help to change the world. Throughout her career, Ms. Miller has been committed to the importance of community engagement, leadership development and community involvement.
